two times in one tournament. freeze out and allowed the player to rebuy. hour later…dealer completely missed the split pot, and despite complaints, was not able to make things right. pretty shady place.
Room is very poor, unless you like feeling your in a basement of someone’s house. Dealers are dressed in street clothes. Tables, and chairs are generic as you can get. Not very proffesional either, I witnessed RUSS (the owner) Yell at a older dealer to get his attention…. You mise well have it in a bowling alley like everyone else because it has a very trashy feel…If I could have rated it negative stars I would have. But look at how many people rated it, that pretty much sums it up I hope this helps others.
This place is a joke. Has a reputation for fights, dealers that are mouthy, and owner calls other charity rooms in the area and threatens them. AVOID at all costs….tournaments are run like hell. I would not advise playin here unless your desperate….I would go to a bingo hall before I would visit here again.

Dollar king by far has the most action and best cash games in the area. They have the sickest (loose and deep stacked) players at their $1/$2 games. They may not be the best run or most organized room but they are fair to their players and always try and fix mistakes amicably. They are improving everyday and I would not play cash games anywhere else in Toledo/S.michigan. They have 2 tables going by 5-5:30 daily and usually get 1-2 more tables through out the night so you have little wait time to get a seat.
how come there isn’t a phone number posted? I live in Monroe, and i don’t want to drive all the way down there if they don’t have a game going! please help!
@Mike..The reason for no phone number being listed is I could not find one for the room. After some searching today I found a phone number and have updated the listing. The phone number I found is 734-224-7766, hope this helps…
Have played at every room in a 50 mile radius and dollar king by far has the best cash action and best tournament payouts . The floor managers have changed in the last 6 months and it couldn’t be better . Highly reccomend this room .
Probably the most action you can get unless you go to the 3 detroit casinos..real laid back, tournaments everyday at 7 oclock 1 dollar pop and chips and complimentary snacks while you play or wait for a seat. Real great place to play!
Some of the dealers definitely need some true training because obviously these are just locals that have played cards from time to time and THINK they know everything inside and out (for example, one dealer MUCKED a players cards that were sitting right in front of them AFTER they called a preflop raise…anyone who deals that pays even half the amount attention required to be a dealer should NEVER make this mistake…also this same dealer flipped out on his co-dealers because he couldn’t do simple math to split a 3-way, 2 all-in pot…the players started to tell him how to do it, he got frustrated, then other dealers at the place tried to explain to him what to do and he was pretty much in tears).
Outside of a couple dealers, the place is pretty enjoyable, real laid back, and until the casino goes up in Rossford, it’s pretty much the only place to go. I give 3 1/2 stars.
just a response to brandons comment
there is a room right down the road Players Poker Room that sells out of tournaments nightly and gets 3 to 4 cash games going
Like others have said, players are ready and willing to put large stacks of money in the middle. Lots of gamble.
Plain and simple deal is the best action in the area .floor people do a good job and do their best to be fair and make everyone comfortable and the tournaments pay out well .
People need to remember this isn’t a casino but the action is just as good .
This room is the biggest joke around. Trailer trash wouldn’t even begin to describe the people who play and run it. The management are theives and break every rule the state has for charity gaming. Nightly fights, gun toting and oh yes lets not forget the people who get robbed when they walk outside. You can get action anywhere…why in the hell would you go there and risk your life because you put a bad beat on one of their thugs. The dealers are the worst and can even figure out how to split a simple math pot. The floor managers don’t even have a concept of the rules of poker. Good luck if you go there since the room has their own prop players waiting for a sucker to walk in.
DOLLAR KING IS THE PLACE TO GO TO GET ROBBED & MUGGED. TRY PLAYERS JUST A LITTLE NORTH ON THE SAME STREET. PROFESSIONAL DEALERS (IF THEY’RE NOT THEY DON’T WORK AT PLAYERS) DICE IS RUNNING THE ROOM AGAIN!!! HE & CHAD WERE GONE BUT ARE BACK. THEY PLAY BY THE LOTTERY RULES ALWAYS.
I now deal at Dollar King and to say you going to get robbed and mugged is not true. Let’s squash the rumors. The room gets a bad rap because of the bar next door.
I aprecaite the fact that everyone has a apinon on Dollar King Poker room, that is way wars have been fought for centries, so that everyone can speak there minds.
Now, I will speak mine… It is a 40-mile one wat trip for me, to play at Dollar King,so I usally get one or two others go long. We have always called ahead, for reserve seating at the tournment games, and Russ, has always acomadated us. And he has alwasy took the time to speak to us when we have arrived. [That is what respectful people do.]
I have cashed in on quite afew of the tournments, which means that I have walked out with cash in pocket. I have never seen any of the ‘negitve’ things that these other people are discribing. There was a dispute at one of the tournment I was in, and the ‘floor man’, came to the table, explained the rule, and seatled the dispute with-in a few seconds.[That seems pretty organized to me. I can’t help but wonder, if maybe these other people making these negitive comments, are working for one of the other Poker Rooms?
My bottom line is this…I have met ALOT of great people at Dollar King, thats “staff and players both”! There is no more problems their, than there is anywhere else in this world!! Keep up the good work Russ and staff, and for the players there, see you at the final table! Gary G. Fremont, Ohio
I am a senior citizen that has played 3 times a week or more at the Dollar King for some time now. I feel safe playing there. I have never had a problem in the card room or coming and going in the parking lot. The other players have always treated me with respect. The dealers and management has always made me feel welcome. Do the dealers make mistakes? Sure from time to time as we all make mistakes. Do they do their best to correct them? They sure do! If you are going there to play cards you will enjoy the other players, dealers and management. I can assure, you will have a good experience. The quality of the card players are much better here than at most charity houses.
I must admit I recently re-visited this poker room and things have changed for the better. The room has been upgraded as well as staff. I now frequent this establishment. Don’t get me wrong, there are still problems and the lack of security is a problem. But its no worse than going to some of the bars.
Some of the good comments are true and people do like playing there for the action. As for the stuff people say negative about it, most of it has been true. There was one shooting outside, no one got hurt. The CHARITY did get robbed walking out one night, and a few people have been robbed… But its not a everyday thing otherwise the room wouldn’t be open. Going to this place is like going to a bar, you never know what you are running into. They have one of the stupidist rules in the state, where if you show your cards to someone and there is more than 2 people in the hand your cards are mucked cash or tournament no warnings.
Doller king sucks the floor cheats the take chips from the back room and give them to players they lime been there seen it no what goes on there there floor suck they think they no abo
ut cards Travis used to be a doorman now he’s floor such a bum roller king cheats for people cold deck steal chips from the back room. For people. Double rack pots.
ab, what did you ‘say’??? Whenever you come down on the ‘crack’, try re-write your article, I could not understand a word you said!
Well I don’t know anything about dollar king except the fact that I would never go and gamble at a dollar store. I would also try and steer clear of players club, they have bad dealers and they hire thieves. In times like this we have a lot of choices on were we want to go spend our money. I’m from detroit and I make a thirty min drive to go to sharkies instead of heading around the corner to go to woodhaven. I like the managers and the staff. they have pro dealers and good people playing. mainly they have no drama.
Sharkies? Are you kidding me? Pro dealers? That has to be the worse run poker room I have ever been at. Went there 3 times. One time they didnt have enough players for one table for tourney or cash. Second time they had 2 tables and both dealers were horrible. The only time it was worth the trip was a 45 person bounty tourney on the guys that now run players. Have to disagree with you on this one big time.
I have been one of the charities that have held millionaire poker tournaments at Dollar King. We have always been, treated fairly and with respect. The room boasts a very professional decor with dearlers clearly identified by the matching shirts. The room directors are very knowledgeable and friendly. We have had many sell out days and repeat business is the norm. Of course the sore losers will complain but that is life as we all know it. I would recommend calling ahead for reservations for the daily tournaments, as they frequently sell out. The phone number is on their website and on a schedule that is available for taking at the location, business cards are available as well. I have been to other game rooms. Dollar King beats them all hands down.
I FEEL THATS IS A GOOD PLACE TO PLAY FOR CASH AND LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER PEOPLE SAID THEY SHOULD GET SOME BETTER DEALERS BUT SOME OF THEM ARE GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO BUT FOR THE MOST PART I PLAY THE TOURNAMENTS A FEW TIMES A WEEK AND I LIKE THE PLACE I FEEL RELAXED THERE AND THERES A BAR RIGHT NEXT DOOR SO IF U LOSE BAD U CAN GO HAVE A DRINK LOL YA AND DOLLAR BILL IS A FUCKEN TRIP THAT DUDE FUNNY AS HELL BUT JUST DONT GET ON HIS BAD SIDE HE WILL MAKE U GO HOME BROKE THANKS BIG DADDY WRIGHT
ohhh ya the free chex mix is the fucken best thanks
Keep your pistols on you. You need them between the door and the parking space. Watch for thugs colluding with their buddies at the final table. You just have to be aggressive in that situation and put a bunch of chips in the middle. LOL.
They have automatic shufflers now that ensure an honest card distribution. At least you don’t have to worry about a meth addicted, card mechanic dealer getting paid by thugs in a cash game.
Aside from the potential robbery and collsion, the action is pretty good there and 95% of the players are easy to get along with and are decent people. Management is OK, but they don’t have the juice to keep the thugs from tainting the game all the time. Just another microcosm of America. Have fun. Bring a crew if you can.
PS Dollar Bill is alright in my book. He just loves to talk and put chips in the middle at the right time. He’ll bust you up if you make a mistake. LOL.
do you mean that Dollar Bill that is sitting in jail right now…….
Loser…
It’s very sad to read that all these players enjoy the Dollar King poker room with no idea of what is going on behind the scenes. I ran the poker room for about a year as well as another person who posted a comment above. “Whitey”… The owner of this establishment is a thief and on multiple occasions right in front of me would pocket 2 or 300 of the re-buy money from the tournaments. Thats a pretty good pay considering they also get half of the 20% they already take off the top. The managers there would sell theyre friends bracelets for the tournament for half the price of the buy in and pocket the money. Also give them extra tournament chips from the back and on top of that sell them cash chips for half price. There is countless things that go on with the ownhership and management that the players never see. I mean how on earth can you have a manager that gets drunk fights in the place more then once and still have a job?? If that isnt enough, the owner has the nerve to go on an interview with Toledo Free Press to say “These poker rooms benefit the community” and in the same sense he and his wife go through ridiculous measures to have other establishments shut down. Even go as far as to tell an ex employee to do something to another poker room to cost them money in hopes they will pack up and leave. So when the ex employee does it for him he not only shows no compassion to him but actually bans him from the poker room. This is a sad excuse for an establishment. I feel sorry for the players who only go “for the action”. Not hard to get action when players are playing on discounted or free money! And Whitey is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! This is a breeding ground for robbery, theft, fights, and thuggish behavior! SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!!!
I play here several times a week and would not hesitate to take my daughters here, it is a fun relaxing evening. I used to play at Players down the street until it closed 6 months ago. Definately call ahead to reserve a seat for the nightly tournaments as they regularly sell out, and be on time or your seat will be sold at 7. I regularly leave with more money than I came with and have never felt unsafe. Tournaments are normally $25 – $50 and cash games are 1-2 and occasionally a 2-5 they are almost all no limit holdem generally 70 person touneys and 2-3 cash tables and they will have someone walk you to your car if requested.
Good news I heard players down the street is reopening
Just went here last night for the first time. Never been to a charity poker room but it was better than I expected. Good turnout for the tourny, dealers friendly and did a good job. I felt completely comfortable and safe there. N
Not to say there was any security in sight… But I felt fine still
(sorry submitted previous comment without finishing)
Wow!!! I can not believe how many people say negative things about the dollar king! I think they are mostly people that are or was in competition with dollar king. Cause I was there the nights that all the bad things happened and they all started at the bar next door!!!! All of the haters need to grow up! These places is one of the best charity rooms I’ve ever been to! Also they are very much into being honest and try there best to be far! If you do something wrong there they will band you! All the bad people are not aloud in there even dollar bill!!!! They have all ways paid out every dollar they take in for tournaments besides the rake which is 20%!!!! That was dice at players who kept the add one for himself and his son! So that’s the truth not in more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOOMTOWN POKER ROOM OPENED OCTOBER 9TH AND THEY ARE JUST DOWN THE STREET FROM DOLLAR KING. It’s a little slow from what I hear right now but that is to be expected since they are just starting out again. Howeve, I was donw there this past Sunday and it was DEFINATELY a nice place to play. They offered all of the players FREE food and I told they are going to serve dinner to the players EVERY night of the week. The staff is professional and the room was very professional and comfortable. It looks like any card room you would see in the nicer casinos. You guys should check them out and give them a chance. I almost forgot, they have Vegas Rules BLACKJACK. http://www.BoomtownPoker.com or call them at 734-224-7012. Good luck Boomtown. Dollar king is nothing more than a bunch of ego maniacs that will do anything they can to sabotage Boomtown. Dollar King should be concerned. Very concerned.
lets not use my name since u are”nt me . thnx and eabod !
